Cyprus the Island for all Seasons

Cyprus is situated in the northeastern Mediterranean, the third largest island in this tranquil sea, covering an area in excess of 3,500 square miles. With approximately 340 days of sunshine a year Cyprus epitomises the ideal weather. Cyprus boast four seasons, whilst the seasonal changes are not dramatic they are different:

Spring

The spring climate offers sunny days with temperatures reaching 21 – 27 Celsius, 70 – 80 fahrenheit, often with a cooling sea breeze. Early spring is a beautiful time in Cyprus when ancient ruins are framed by a carpet of red anemones and other wild flowers. The fresh green meadows become alive and the almond trees boast their beautiful pink blossom.

Spring is an ideal time for nature lovers to go hiking or on off – road adventures in the glorious Akamas peninsula. Meandering along the rugged foothills towards the Baths of Aphrodite cyclamen blooms in a carpet of pink. Spring is the time to see Cyprus in all it’s glory where the natural beauty of the Island is in bloom.

Summer

Long summer days with warm seas, cloudless skies and a cool sea breeze stretch from mid-May through to mid-October. This is an ideal time to try out a vast range of water sports on offer, including scuba diving, sailing, jet skiing and parasailing. For those who prefer to lay back and relax, try swimming in the clear blue Mediterranean, or sunbathe on the blue flag beaches or by the pool.

During the long hot summer days it is best to avoid the mid day sun as temperatures reach 32 / 33 Celsius.

Autumn

By the end of October the evenings are cool but the days remain very warm and sunny still reaching 25 / 27 Celsius. The leaves in the vineyards and on the TroodosMountains start to change their colour and take on beautiful hues of crimson and gold against the backdrop of clear blue skies. For the second time in the year the island delights nature-lovers with blossoms and blooms of many different kinds of flowers. Wild fields and grasses turn suddenly from brown to green. The air smells fresh and clean and the trees are a bright fresh green after the dusty summertime.

Winter

December and January are the winter months in the Mediterranean bringing rain to the Island and snow in the peaks of the TroodosMountains where you can ski in the mountain resorts. Cyprus is the southern most island in the Mediterranean with temperatures reaching the low 60’s in December and January.

The appearance on the coast in winter is little different to autumn. Some deciduous trees lose their leaves, the sky can be cloudy and the sea becomes rough. The rich yellow and orange of the citrus fruits, which are now ready to be picked, provide a splash of colour.
